Concept and basic development for the lightweight construction function carrier

The ZIM cooperation project Funktionsträger is a joint development of YOUR Solution GmbH & Co. KG, Simcon kunststofftechnische Software GmbH and KUZ. The aim is a lightweight construction concept specifically for load-bearing components. Important fundamentals are direction-dependent mechanical characteristic values as well as rheological data.

Structures subjected to bending loads are primarily designed according to the sandwich principle in lightweight construction. With the aid of 2K foam injection molding technology (2K-TSG), such structures can also be produced inexpensively and in large series using the one-shot process. In this process, highly rigid, compact cover layers are held apart by a lightweight, foamed core. In addition to a TSG-compatible component design, the materials for the skin and core layers must be matched to each other in terms of material and rheological properties. On this basis, the research project aims to develop, design and implement a generic lightweight carrier solution that is to be used primarily in electromobility.

In addition, a software solution for injection molding simulation of 2K TSG processes is to be developed to estimate the processing properties of the component. The developed lightweight functional carrier will subsequently serve as a generic demonstrator for 2K-TSG technology and will exhibit significantly better specific bending stiffness compared to a conventionally implemented component design.
