Humidity, rheology and molded part properties

Avoidance of moisture-related molding defects

Moisture-related molded part defects are a widespread problem in the processing of polyamides. In order to achieve continuously high quality and minimize rejects in the injection molding of technical parts made of PA6, instructions for plastics processors are being developed as part of the project.

To achieve this, the water content of the granules (before and after drying) and of the molded parts will be determined using various measuring methods and their influence on the molded part properties will be investigated. In addition, the viscosity of the melt during processing will be measured using an injection molding rheometer and its dependence on the water content of the granules will be investigated.
